It's the Little Things...

I've been a busy bee the last two weekends so, when I had the chance to sit down and clean off my desk and organize my drawers I was so excited. Yes, excited. I love organizing. It has a calming effect on me. You'd think my entire house was organized wouldn't you? Nope. It's not. Ever since I began the adventure with Poppy and Pippa my weekends have pretty much been planned out for me. Work, work, and more work. I used to use my weekends to organize and re-organize.

My husband even commented the other day that we've switched roles. He's the cleaner and I'm the mess maker. I really need to work on that but, for now, I get to show off my clean desk. I should've taken a before picture - Just know that this desk was piled with bins and boxes from the craft fest.

Now, it's all put away and organized.

Take a gander at these organized drawers!

Check out all of the new items I listed in the shop. I believe I took over 600 photos and edited them this weekend.

The Unglued Craft Fest Recap

On Friday night and Saturday I participated in my second craft "show." It's a lot of work leading up to it but it's so much fun to hear all of the comments from customers. This show was put on by a local shop called Unglued. (read about it here). It's basically a brick and mortar store featuring local Etsy artists. It's a fantastic concept. I have yet to stop by there but, my husband has several times because they have these "to die for" gluten-free cupcakes. I finally got to try one of the cupcakes at the event on Saturday. I tried the Maple Bacon cupcake. It was so good. It was very rich and honestly, I couldn't finish it. Yes, folks, it was too rich for me. I don't think it's too often I find a sweet that I can't finish. I would definitely purchase it again but this time have more room in my stomach.
Why, yes, that is candied bacon sprinkled on the top and drizzles of maple syrup.

Friday evening I was kept company by my friend Jess. She is expecting a baby in May - a baby GIRL!! There's going to be a lot of baby girls welcomed into the world this spring from what I saw on Friday. There were so many mommy's to be purchasing their baby's first headband. It was adorable. Friday was a little slower than I expected but, I guess the promoters of the event said that twice as many people attended the event than they were projecting. Friday night was a Gala event. It was dressier with wine and appetizers being served. The guests had to pay $10 to shop early. It seemed to be a much younger crowd shopping on Friday night compared to Saturday.

Saturday went by faster than I imagined it would. Although I was exhausted by the end of the day and my feet were killing me I think the entire day was a success. There was great live music throughout the day (Bill played!!) and the venue was so cool. I just don't see myself doing a craft fair in a gym or civic center. I think I'm going to stick to the more unique settings.

The Plains Art Center
Three floors of handmade goodness!

My booth.
It was located on the third floor in the far corner. I actually liked the location. It was nice to be tucked away in the corner because there was more room for people to look for a bit. It was also nice because I was out of the traffic pattern so it didn't get super crowded when people were trying to look at things on my table. I should've taken a picture of my booth from a distance...

My next adventure with Poppy and Pippa is the spring Junk Market...

"I baked! I really did!!"
With all of the busyness behind me (for a while) I have some time on my hands in the evening. I've been wanting to make homemade granola bars for a while now. The store bought ones are good - but have very little nutritional value. I found a recipe for Pumpkin Granola Bars on Pinterest. Made them. Ate them. Love them. Seriously - only one change I would make for next time is to add cinnamon and reduce the amount of pumpkin pie spice. Check the recipe out!

Happy Baking and Shopping!

Micellany Monday

Random thoughts about my first vendor event...

All of the hours and weeks of hard work preparing for my first craft show paid off! I was very doubtful leading up to the event. I wasn't sure it would be "my thing." But, it was! As with everything I do - I researched everything I could to make sure my first vendor experience was a success. I think I read for hours about booth design and the do's and don'ts of a successful show.

Here is my practice table at home in my office. I changed a few things before the actual event. Bill made me professional looking pricing signs and I ended up hanging some headbands rather than laying them on a plate. But, other than that - it stayed the same. (My sign is 24 X24 stretched canvas - perfect for hanging in my office when it's not in use).

Here is my booth - I had a very small 4X6 spot - it was perfect.

As you can see from my hat that it was a bit chilly. In fact it was about 34 degrees when we were setting up. Thank goodness for the spot in the sunshine against the building and out of the wind. So many of the vendors froze their butts off! Luckily, the weather didn't scare anyone off. It turned out that the line to get into the event went all the way down the block and around the building - it was three times as long as the event this last spring! It turned out to be a beautiful first day of fall.

Just a fraction of the line...

FYI - We used 'Square' to take credit cards and to keep track of cash and checks on the iPad. It was so slick. If you are planning on participating in a vendor event I highly recommend using Square. There are NO hidden fees! It's just 2.75% per swipe and your money is deposited the NEXT day!

I was so tired after the event - I was asleep by 8:30pm. It was a good day.

Now, I'm gearing myself up to be energized for this coming weekend - It's the state early childhood conference - in which I am the chair of the planning committee. I am trying to psych myself up for another weekend of long days...

Junk Market - Display

As I shared with you on Monday, I am 8 days away from the Junk Market. I've been busy researching everything anyone would need to know to have a successful show. I've been mildly obsessed with it. I know in my mind what I want my booth to look like. I have a 6' table under an awning. I'm starting small - this way I don't need to invest in a tent. If I don't love it - so be it. I gave it a try... although I hope to love it. I'm very proud of my work and where Poppy and Pippa has come in the past year. Again, that's from being mildly obsessed with researching successful online stores. No wonder I don't have a life. I'm too busy being obsessive.

Moving on.

Here are two of the things I purchased at Hobby Lobby today at 50% off. Woot! Woot!

This first one is a lovely bright pink jewelry holder - as you can see I'm going to use it to display headbands. I believe it was about $6.

I saw this metal bowl from across the store and it was screaming to me! I love it. I almost bought one in each color but, settled on purple. This one was $15. So worth it.
For the show I'm not putting hair ties in here. I have way too many so they're going into a green basket. I was thinking I could put it upside down and clip clips to the outside... so many possibilities.

Finally, here is one of the headbands that will be for sale. I'm using a stainless steel "vase" with rocks in it to display the hard headbands.

I can't wait to share more with you in the next few days...

Enjoy your day!

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday is one of my favorite posts to write because I get to share the random. I hope everyone had a great weekend!

My first Poppy and Pippa party was a huge success!  It was a lot of work to prepare for it - getting all of the kinks out. The next one will go off without a hitch.  I was so exhausted afterwards but, it was a good exhausted. My friend Holly invited me to do the party; she has been wanting to have one for some time now. We even made plans to do another one!

A box came in the mail on Saturday; It was filled with beautiful elastic. I love the new elastic hair ties in my shop. I now have approx. 30 colors available. I spent some time on Saturday working on the hair ties and headbands. Here's just a glimpse at the recently purchased elastic.

I did a little shopping on Saturday as well. I love shopping with a gift card. Here is what I got:
These super comfy khaki's in pink. They are so soft and have a relaxed fit. I could get them in every color! They seem to run big so get a size down.

I've been on the hunt for a new pair of boyfriend jeans with no success. I am so disappointed. So I settled on these. I love them. They are the perfect in-between skinny and normal fit. I got the ankle length so I could roll them.

Whidbey had fun in my lightbox in between taking photos of product.

Have a Great Monday. Talk to you Tomorrow!

Miscellany Monday

Hello Monday. Today I'm linking up with Carissa from Lowercase Letters for Miscellany Monday. You really should check it out. I'm also starting something new today. There are so many times when I have questions about products or what I should wear with my skinny jeans that I really want to ask you. So, every now and then I'm going to have a "Question of the Day," I know you must have questions on your mind too. This way we can all share our opinions and maybe even get tips from each other. It's a win-win. :)

Miscellany Monday @

one.
I had Thursday and Friday off (as well as today) to work on Poppy and Pippa items. I'm doing my first party on Friday (the 13th!!). I created a new flower - all hand sewn - to coordinate with the Matilda Jane clothing line as well as many other clothing lines. Not so much the vacation I was planning but, all of this party business came together on Wednesday night. I really really need to take time off for just me. I so need it!

two.
I'm trying to eat better. Aren't we all?! It's so hard because I am ADDICTED to chocolate...and candy...and really anything sweet! Well, in my attempt to eat better I created my very own "more healthy than ice cream and chocolate cake" dessert. It's cut up banana, pineapple, coconut and two tablespoons of Hershey's chocolate syrup. Looks absolutely horrible. Tastes absolutely fabulous! I can't wait for strawberries to be in season. It is going to be even better!

three.
Easter. What a beautiful day! We spent this Easter with Bill's parents. We went to Mass and then out to eat. It was delicious. (Can you tell I'm a bit passionate about food?) I had the Turkey Cranberry Puff Pastry with Mornay Sauce and Maple Glazed Carrots. It was so wonderful. I hope you all enjoyed your Easter and time with your families.

:: Question of the Day ::
What is your favorite body wash and why?

I have just a little left and would like to try something new. Can't wait to hear what you have to say!

Have a wonderful day. Talk to you tomorrow :)

High Five for Friday

I don't know what's been up with me lately but I am sooo tired! We have had rainy gloomy weather all week. Nothing like a lack of sunshine to take all of your energy. That's why I'm thankful it's FRIDAY and this weekend is supposed to be sunny. I have lots on my "to do" list but, first I get to share a few highlights from the last week.

one.
The return of Mad Men. If you don't watch this show or think it "looks dumb" you are missing out!
{via}
two.
My beautiful baby sister's 33rd birthday. Boy, that makes me feel old! It's crazy how fast time goes by. It seems like just yesterday we were singing Belinda Carlisle songs and making up dances to Tiffany. Oh the good old days!

three.
My new badge reel holder by Poppy and Pippa. I never wear "flair" per se but, this is just enough to add a little something.

four.
My Revlon "Chic" nail polish.

five.
Green skinny jeans!! I finally found a pair of skinny jeans that fit great and were only $19.99 at TJ Maxx. The pair pictured are not the actual jeans I purchased - they are some off brand that I can't remember the name of...
{via}
bonus.
It hasn't happened yet but, I wanted to share the weekend forecast! Crappy Friday and Crappy Monday but a fabulous weekend! Yay!!

two.
I found this grey flowered dress for only $27!

three.
Enjoying the Sunshine with Sophia!
Why, yes, that is "lip gloss" in her hand. Can't you swing and hold on to your gloss?

four.
Let's hear it for unseasonably warm weather - woot woot!! This time last year it was freezing and we were preparing for another flood. What a difference a year makes! I've heard that we're breaking high temperature records for this time of year! I just hope we don't get a snowstorm in April...

five.
New item at Poppy and Pippa! These new hair ties seem to be everywhere so I thought why not add them to my shop? I've seen these hair ties go for as much at $5 each -  at Poppy and Pippa they are $0.75 each. I have a limited color selection right now but, if you are interested in other colors - let me know what you have in mind.
grey, lime, mint, white and rose
