DIY :: Wall Art

Last week I asked for suggestions on decorating my office. I mentioned that I had an idea for one of the walls. Here is the inspiration that I found on Pinterest for that wall (keep in mind that I work with children):

Here is the finished product: (My office wall)

Supplies:
  • 9 canvases in 8X10 and 11X14 sizes
  • 9 different colors of paint
  • Mod Podge (or other sealer)
  • Small clothes pins
  • Scrapbook Paper (just a few sheets)
  • 3M wall hanging strips
Process:

1. Paint the canvases and let dry - at least two coats.

TIP:
I tape a large ribbon spool to the underside of the canvas so painting the sides is a bit easier.
It's also nice because everything is able to dry without sticking or getting paint on another surface.

2. Let the Canvases dry overnight.
3. The next day cover each canvas with a sealer - I used Mod Podge
4. If possible let them dry in the sunshine - do two coats of sealer.

5. While those are drying it's time to grab the scrapbook paper - a scissors or paper cutter - Mod Podge - and 12 small clothes pins. (I used double sided tape rather than the Mod Podge for the first step)

6. Measure the width and length of the clothes pins and cut the scrapbook paper to that size.

7. Next, tape or mod podge the paper to each of the clothes pins.

8. When all of the clothes pins are done - it's time to Mod Podge them. I clipped them to a piece of cardboard for ease.

9. I had a wonderful helper during this process

10. Finished clothes pins - let dry overnight

11. When the canvases and the clothes pins are dry it's time to secure the pins to the canvas. I used Goop. It was what I had a home - besides hot glue. I wanted to use E-6000 glue but didn't have any.

12. You're done!

Hanging:
Now, it's time for the fun part! I laid them out in several different patterns on my kitchen table before hanging them at work.

When you're ready to hang them use these - so easy!

I put two on the larger canvases and one on the smaller ones. Don't forget to measure and use a level.

Here is my finished wall:

And...
...still looking for suggestions :)

See you tomorrow for Wednesday :: Pinterest :: Top Ten!

Ha! I love that "hangry" pillow. I traveled to Rwanda last summer and a couple of the African guys there said "hangry" when they meant "hungry," so it's even funnier!
