Wednesday :: Pinterest :: Top Ten :: Color

First of all, I have to say that I have a snow day today!! Yay!! Working on Poppy and Pippa creations and baking yummy muffins (that I found on Pinterest). I think every teacher looks forward to at least one snow day a winter.

Moving on...
. . .

Wednesday is one of my favorite blogging days because I get to share all of the hard work (ha) I've put into "pinning" items onto my boards. Enjoy!

I love this bright yellow sign. It reminds me of my wedding day...I was driving to decorate the morning of my wedding and the sky was blue, the sun was shinning and there was a crisp clean Fall smell in the air. This was playing in my CD player (before iPods). I knew it was going to be a good day.

There is a blizzard on the way to me right now! {singing} I'm so excited, I just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I think I like it... Ok that's a little extreme but, I like to be dramatic sometimes. Anywho - I'm in a blizzard watch. I'm crossing my fingers for a snow day on Wednesday. Will you cross your fingers for me too? {Please know I don't wish harm on travelers or lost wages for people}

diary of...

Hello Monday!
First of all, if you didn't read yesterday's post you really should. I reviewed all of the Vichy products I received in my bonus Birchbox and told a little about my new design.

. . .

Moving on... I've been doing some thinking lately about "Diary of a Former Skinny Girl" and you know what? Being skinny doesn't make me who I am. It doesn't make me any smarter or funnier. Sure, it makes my clothes fit better but, I don't want it to define who I am. It never has until I started this blog and started the "Skinny Girl" posts. No matter what size you are as long as you're happy that's what really matters. So, from here on out, there will be no more "Skinny Girl" posts. Yes, I'm still trying to lose weight and get healthier and I'll still post on that from time to time but, for now you'll get "a little of this and a little of that."
Have a Great Monday!

a little of this and a little of that

It's a blustery cold winter day here in the midwest and I'm so excited. I love snow! I know it's almost March and the Spring melt should be days away but, this storm is awesome! I've been waiting for it since November. I have a list of things to do today - some not so fun things like laundry and cleaning the bathroom but, the snow makes it ok. So, if it's blustery in your area - enjoy it rather than hate on it. Hating on it won't change it so embrace the storm.

Did you notice my new blog header? My lovely husband created it just for me! I'm so excited because he's not finished. He is going to revamp my sidebar too. I can't wait! I love it! I couldn't put into words exactly what I wanted but I knew I wanted simple and clean with a touch of green. It's perfection. Stay tuned for upcoming improvements.

Now, on to my bonus Birchbox review. I don't know how I was chosen to receive this bonus box but, I'll take it! The box was sponsored by Vichy a skincare company from France. I was excited because the French have amazing skin. I wasn't expecting miracles because I've only been using it for four days and, honestly, I like what I currently use. I was pleasantly surprised by both the price and the products.

www.birchbox.com

Aqualia Thermal Cream
This is the daily moisturizer. I like it because it's thick but not greasy. It has a light fragrance that is almost nonexistent. Moisturizer is important to me because I live in the cold midwest and the winter weather is tough on skin. I was very impressed with this moisturizer and I plan to keep on using it in place of my Olay moisturizer that I adore. The price is reasonable. It's only a few more dollars than what I currently use at $29.95 (1.7 fl oz).

Lifactiv Rhamonse Night
This night cream is Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Care - exactly what my 35 year old skin needs. It contains Rhamonse a plant-derived ingredient that helps skin renew itself. This night cream is thick. I mean really thick. I was scared to lather my face with it because I had visions of waking up in the morning with a face covered in pimples! That's not what happened. After using it only four nights I honestly see a reduction in my pores (which weren't that large to begin with). My skin feels and looks great with no sign of acne on the horizon. This product is more spendy at $49 (1.7 fl oz) I think it's worth it (so far).

*I should mention that when I try something new I know within two days if it's going to work for me depending on the acne factor. I don't have acne - a pimple here and there but that's it. If a new product isn't going to work I wake up with a pimple or two.

Purete Thermal 3-in-1 One Step Cleanser
This cleanser is a cleansing milk, toning lotion, and makeup remover all in one. You smooth it on dry skin and rinse with water. As I was smoothing it on my dry skin I was getting worried because it was very moisturizing if you know what I mean. I knew there would be no lather but when I rinsed it off it felt as though my skin was already moisturized. It was as if I couldn't rinse it off. I'll be honest, I kinda freaked out that first time because I didn't want any pesky pimples to pop up. But, after calming down (it really wasn't that dramatic) I just went with it. I rinsed and patted my face dry. I was surprised because my face didn't feel like there was any cleanser residue on it - you all know what I mean. I moved on to moisturizing and the rest is explained above. I don't know if this would be great in the summer but, for now it's working for me. I'm going to continue to use this in place of my current product. I'm so impressed with these products that I want to continue to use them to see if they really are as great as I think they are.
The cleanser is very reasonable and less than what I currently use at $19.50 (6.7 fl oz.).

Pruete Thermal Eye Makeup Remover For Sensitive Eyes
First of all, I need to begin with saying that I've tried many, many different eye makeup removers and been disappointed by the oily residue that's usually left covering my eye area. I swear by Amay eye makeup remover pads and have been using them for years.

So, moving on to my review of this product. I was hesitant to try this because as I said before I didn't want a oily mess covering my eye area. Guess what? I didn't have a bit of oily residue. It worked great. Actually it worked the same as my Almay eye makeup remover pads. No better or no worse. The same. I probably will save this for travel and continue to use what I have. This remover is spendy at $16.50 (5.1 fl oz.).

Celludestock
This is for the appearance of cellulite. While I have cellulite I didn't even attempt to use it. I know it would only be a temporary fix as all caffeine lotions are. Sorry guys, I just didn't care to try it. I believe the only way to help the cellulite problem is to exercise. Although I do think cellulite is hereditary and can't always be prevented...that's a different topic for a different day. Anyway, this lotion is $39.50 (6.7 fl oz).

All in all, I like this skincare line. I'm very impressed with the results after only four days and I'm going to continue to use them until they are gone or my skin starts rebelling against it. I'll keep you posted on what I find after using for more than four days.

If you got the bonus box, what do you think?

Three Looks I'm Loving

How is it so easy to find an adorable outfit on Pinterest but when you're in the store it's impossible to find something this cute? And how is it that I have incredible fashion sense on Pinterest but, all of a sudden lose it once I enter a clothing store? If you're curious about my fabulous fashion sense check out my Pinterest board - it may not be for you but, it's what I love.

one.
Hello? I mean what's not to love about this? It has mint, crop jeans, flats... Perfection.
via

two.
Love this look. I think everyone knows by now that I love a good crop jean. I'd wear flats. I think this has me written all over it!
via
three.
This is so bright and colorful. I'm really trying to get more color into my wardrobe. I would love a closet full of colorful flats! I think this look would be even cuter with crop pants...haha. No, I mean it. I really think it would look cute with crops.

High Five For Friday

YAY! It's Friday!  Five favorites from this week.

one.
MINT.
I've never been so obsessed about
a color in my entire life. It is such
a happy and calming color all at the same time.
Here's my manicure from this week.

two.
SNOW.
Now that it's almost March we are finally getting some
snow. We've gone all winter with very little and this week
it's snowed every day with a big storm expected
for this weekend. Shhhhh don't tell anyone but,
I love it!!
Here's Wilfred our gnome. I think he might be cold.

three.
Two Birchboxes in one week!
I'm very excited to try all of the Vichy products.
I don't know how I got to be one of the lucky ones
chosen to receive a bonus box this month but, Thank you!
I'll do a little review of my box this weekend.
Box one.
Bonus box.
four.
A blog award.
What?!
Yup. I got an award.

I was given the award by Liz from Liz's Lovely Life
THANK YOU LIZ!

The origins of the Liebster Blog award are somewhat unclear but the general consensus is that it originated in Germany, Liebster meaning favorite or dearest, to showcase bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. Upon accepting the award the recipient must then pass it on to five more blogs of note.

This is tough. Most (not all) of the blogs I'd give the award to have already received it. Would it be weird if they got it twice?? I'm going to hold off on giving the award until I find five deserving blogs that have not received the award. I don't know if I'm allowed to play it this way but this is the way it's going to be :)

five.
Hair cut.
Oh, it feels so good!
No split ends here.
Coming soon...highlights.
This is a big deal. I have only colored my hair
approx. five times in my entire 35 years.
I'm all growed up now so I think it's time
to pull up the big girl panties and take the
"hair color plunge!"

Thursday Organization Inspiration

Hi all! I am so excited to be a guest blogger over at Liz's Lovely Life today!
Go over and check out her blog - I am also sponsoring a GIVEAWAY - any
two items of your choice from Poppy and Pippa!!

Now, On To Thursday Organization Inspiration
I'm going to share a quick and easy tip for organizing your make-up.

Up until recently I was using a small three-drawer unit for all of my make up.
It was working but, I had to take all of the drawers out and line them up on the counter when I was getting ready. The drawers were pretty small so I had to keep some of my make-up in my bathroom drawer. If you saw my post last week  you know I cleaned out my drawer so, I needed some place for ALL of my make-up to be stored.

That's where Pinterest comes in - as always. I found this great way to store art supplies in a picnic silverware caddy. I am in no way an artist but I do have things that needed organizing. I found mine at Gordman's for $9.99. It works perfectly for all of my "It's time to look presentable and smell good" stuff.
As you can see, I have all of my make-up, brushes, deodorant and body lotion stored in this basket. I keep this stored under my bathroom sink just like the drawer unit. Of course, this organizational moment led to another - cleaning out under the sink! It was easy. I purchased several small containers from the dollar store (it's under the sink - who cares what they look like as long as they are functional) and sorted products into three categories - supplies we both use, products I use and products he uses. We are very low maintenance people so we use very few products when we get ready in the morning. So, it worked perfectly to put the "sometimes" products in the back although they are still easily accessible.

BEFORE

AFTER

I hope you feel inspired to make your home a little more organized!

Tuesday Product Spotlight: Concealer

via

Erase Paste by Benefit has changed my life. I am not exaggerating. It is amazing. It is one of those Rachel Zoe "shut. up." moments.

I have dark circles under my eyes and I have had these said circles for a long time. I have tried unsuccessfully to cover the circles with many different products - the list is long. Mary Kay, Bare Essentials, Stila, and every possible drug store brand out there. Nothing worked, until Erase Paste came into my life. I'd read about it on beauty blogs but the thought of putting "paste" under my eyes was not appealing at all. Even though I was hesitant about trying it I finally did. I purchased a small pot along with samples of a few other Benefit concealers in a kit called "Confessions of a Concealaholic." Perfect name. I really liked all of the concealers in the kit but the Erase Paste was my favorite.

via

If you're thinking about trying Erase Paste it's important to know that it's thick, thicker than actual "paste" and a little goes a long way. I highly recommend giving it a try.
